Killeen police ID man found dead FridayKilleen police continue to investigate the death of a 22-year-old man whose body was found Friday morning in southeastern Killeen.
On Saturday, police said the man was identified as Marcus Antonio Gonsalves of Copperas Cove. His cause of death has not been released pending autopsy results, but officials are treating it as a homicide.
His body was found Friday in an empty lot in the 7000 block of Osbaldo Drive. Police believe he was killed Thursday night.

Heights roadwork starts TuesdayHARKER HEIGHTS — On Tuesday and Wednesday, contractors will be laying asphalt on Indian Trail from Antelope to Suzanne.
Indian Trail will have reduced lanes from Antelope to Verna Lee and then detour. The south bound detour will be from Indian Trail turn left on Verna Lee to Shine, turn right on Shine to Nola Ruth, turn right on Nola Ruth to Indian Trail. Northbound traffic will turn right on Nola Ruth, left on Shine, left on Verna Lee and right on Indian Trail.
West bound traffic can use Verna Lee. Be prepared for delays.

Cove road closure starts MondayCOPPERAS COVE — The Texas Department of Transportation will close Anderson Mountain Road from Farm-to-Market 116 to Old Georgetown Road on Monday.
The closure is part of the project to construct a new roadway, as a northeast relief route around Copperas Cove, which began last month. The roadway will ultimately reopen as State Highway 9, connecting U.S. 190 to FM 116, just north of Copperas Cove.
This three-mile reliever route is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2013, weather permitting.
Deadline nears for scholarship contestAUSTIN — With the March 28 deadline approaching, more than 150 Texas high school seniors have applied for the Don't Mess with Texas scholarship and more are encouraged to apply.
The eighth annual scholarship is sponsored by the Dow Chemical Company in partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful. The first-place winner will receive $3,000. The second- and third-place winners will receive $1,000 each.
Any Texas high school senior who will attend a two- or four-year Texas college or university can apply. For the essay prompt, application, rules, and background information, go to http://dontmesswithtexas.org/programs/scholarship/. Winners will be notified in April.
Crawfish Boil, auction plans under wayThe 13th annual Crawfish Boil Fish Fry and silent auction is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7 at the Killeen Special Events Center.
Sponsored by the Killeen Heights Rotary Club, the event will feature a bounty of crawfish, catfish and chicken.
Tickets for adults are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Children, 12 and under, pay only $5.
Live music provided by Jerry Haisler and the Melody 5.
In addition to the annual fish fry, the Armed Services YMCA will be on hand with a Healthy Kids Day and a bounce house.

Salado GOP group plans WWII programThursday, the Salado Area Republican Women will host a program on the daughters of World War II veterans.
The luncheon buffet will be at the Sirena Room of Tenroc Ranch on Thomas Arnold Road and will start at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10 and may be paid at the door, but reservations are requested for seating and quantity of food.

Incredible Kids event set for April 14Camp Fire USA Tejas Council presents the 12th annual Absolutely Incredible Kid Celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 14 in the Assembly Hall of the Bell County Expo Center in Belton.
Ten youth, selected from nominations received from local schools, organizations, and individuals, will be honored. The celebration focuses on the positive impact youth exhibit in their every day lives.
Mark Nigliazzo, President of Texas A&M University– Central Texas will serve as the guest speaker. Myra Arthur and Doug Currin, news anchors for KCEN-TV, will share duties as masters of ceremonies.
