Copperas Cove chamber of commerce holds banquet

Killeen Daily HeraldCOPPERAS COVE – The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce recognized members past and present and awarded businesses at the chamber banquet Saturday night.
Holy Family Catholic Church was filled with green, purple and gold Mardi Gras decorations as chamber members, business owners and guests, donning feathered masks, bid for signed sports memorabilia, jewelry, a large rocking bench, Central Texas College planetarium tickets and more in the silent auction.
After attendees enjoyed live music by the Waco-based band The Morticians and dinner served by The Yumm Factory Café in Lampasas, Chamber President Marty Smith thanked businesses and Fort Hood soldiers for coming and presented the gavel to outgoing chair Cindy Sanders.
The gavel was passed on to 2010 Chair Mark Peterson who thanked outgoing board members Jamie Clark, Theresa Chavez, Neva Moten and Don Webb.
"During the past year, we had a lot of turbulence in the chamber, but we persevered and had a great year," Peterson said.
Smith then awarded businesses for their cooperation in 2009.
The National Banks of Central Texas won the "Yes" Award for helping the chamber anyway they could, Smith said.
Domino's Pizza won "Good Friend of the Chamber" award and Business of the Year award went to HEB and Walmart.
Joy Johnson won Chamber Ambassador of the Year with Paula Cobb garnering an honorable mention.
Smith also awarded Darrell Clemons with the "Captain's Best Supportive Crew Member" award and thanked her entire staff that she calls "the best in the world."
