Former Copperas Cove standout Tanner Brock was honored this week for his quick transition to college football, as the freshmen linebacker received second-team Freshman All-America honors from Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
Brock led all TCU freshmen with 31 tackles, the most by a freshmen since Jason Phillips had a team-high 71 in 2005. He also led the Horned Frogs with 13 special teams tackles.
It was on special teams where Brock received national attention. Against SMU, Brock lost his helmet early on a punt return, only to make a big-time block to help spring Jeremy Kerley for a 71-yard punt return.
Brock left Cove as the program's record holder in career tackles (660), consecutive games started (45) and all-state selections (6). He earned first-team all-district honors three times, including being named the District 16-4A Newcomer of the Year in 2006 and 12-5A Defensive Most Valuable Players in 2008.
