Killeen Daily HeraldThe developers of Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove are almost there.
Tuesday, the Copperas Cove City Council approved the performance agreement/clawback agreement for the assisted living facility with the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corp.
At a special meeting Monday, the CCEDC made changes to the document before council approval Tuesday.
The infrastructure reimbursement is one of two items developers need approval for before the project can get started. The other is a tax abatement.
Changes in the document include a reduction in the infrastructure reimbursement from $403,000 to $224,000. The 20 employees in the original agreement decreased to 15 from a payroll of $732,000 per year with benefits to $506,000, which the assisted living center has to meet a year after opening.
The 60-unit assisted living center that will be on 5.02 acres of land behind Walmart on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive is ready for construction, but it is awaiting approval of the infrastructure agreement and tax abatement with the city.
In other business:
The council approved a HOP bus shelter at the Civic Center stop.
The council did not discuss an agenda item to amend the chapter in the city's code of ordinances regarding the adoption, transfer or euthanization of animals at the animal shelter. The item called for the removal of a section of the ordinance that allows the shelter to transfer unclaimed animals to a nonprofit humane organization.
Animal Control Supervisor Ernie Lee said he was unsure why the item was removed from the agenda and not discussed at Tuesday's meeting.
