What was it like starting at quarterback?
It was hard coming in and playing on varsity my first time, but I got used to it after a while – I got the hang of it.
You also play basketball, so what sport do you feel is your best?
Basketball. It's not as physical as football is. I can be physical on the court, but the hits (in football) kind of got to me.
You're one of two players being counted on to fill the shoes of D.J. Stephens, who's now playing at the University of Memphis. What's that like?
It feels great to fill his shoes. He went big-time to Memphis. So now we have two people trying to rebound and be like him.
At 6-foot-2, you are one of the smaller posts in the area. What's it like going head-to-head against bigger posts along with 6-foot-5 teammate Micha Rainey?
It feels good going against those big guys. For us, we like playing those upper guys so we can get a bigger challenge.
What's your feeling about playing in the Killeen City Classic basketball tournament this weekend, which is back after a five-year hiatus?
Our whole team is looking forward to it, especially the big guys. A lot of challenges are going to come in here and some great competition, and it'll help us get ready for district.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
Music. We kind of mess around a little bit, trying to stay loose.
What do you prefer to listen to before games?
I like listening to rock.
What do you listen to normally?
Usually hip-hop. Probably Mr. Lonestar. He's a Texas guy from around here.
