High School Roundup: Place leads No. 21 Lady Hornets to win

GATESVILE – The Class 3A No. 21 Gatesville Lady Hornets hits six 3-pointers, including three by McKamie place, and defeated McGregor 46-39 on Tuesday.
Place led Gatesville (5-2) with 16 points. McGregor grabbed the early lead, 13-9, after the first quarter, but the Hornets shut McGregor down in the second, holding the Lady Bulldogs to five points and taking a 21-18 lead at the half.
Hannah Nolte added nine points for Gatesville.
Salado boys 64, Grandview 54 – At Salado, Koby Spears hit four 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead Salado past Grandview.
The two teams got off to a fast start in the first quarter, with Salado (1-0) taking the early lead, 23-18.
The pace was paced even further with the Eagles going on top 40-30 at the half, before the two teams settled down in the second half and battling to a 24-24 tie.
Braxton Tucker added 14 and Paul Warren had 12 points in the Eagles' 10-point win.
Burnet boys 46, Lampasas 38 – At Lampasas, Ben Cardozo scored 16 points as Burnet defeated the Badgers and kept them winless on the season.
Eduardo Davila led the Badgers (0-4) with 11 points. Even though the Bulldogs could not hit there free throws, the wide discrepancy in foul shots was all they needed.
Burnet hit 12 of 27 from the line, while Lampasas was 4-of-7.
Jarrell boys 38, No. 17 Gatesville 29 – At Jarrell, minus District 7-3A offensive MVP Dominique Moore and two other key cogs with football injuries, the Hornets opened their season with a loss.
Garrett Johnson had 12 points to lead the Hornets, who played numerous guys earning their first varsity game experience.
Gatesville (0-1) scored just 11 points in the first three quarters as Jarrell rolled to a 32-11 lead but the Hornets rallied to score 18 in the fourth, just not enough to overcome the early deficit.
Kreece Cooper scored a game-high 22 points for the Cougars, who were regional semifinalists last season.
