AUSTIN – Leading 42-36 entering the fourth quarter, the Harker Heights boys basketball team couldn't hold off a late charge by Austin Reagan, as the hosts rallied for a 57-54 win in the season-opener for both schools Tuesday night.

Despite three players in double figures – sophomore Thomas Cherry and junior Royce Oneale led with 12 points and fellow junior Daevon Brown added 10 – the Knights (0-1) struggled defensively in the fourth as Reagan outscored Heights 21-12 in the frame.

Pflugerville Connally boys 68, Ellison 64 – At Pflugerville, outscored 24-15 in the final frame, the Ellison boys basketball team dropped its season-opener.

After coming out of halftime trailing 28-27, the Eagles (0-1) pulled ahead 49-44 by the end of the third.

But they couldn't maintain their advantage as the tables turned in the fourth quarter.

Ellison was led by Devonte Brown and Cameron Gunter, who had 15 and 14 points, respectively

Gatesville girls 53, Jarrell 35 – At Gatesville, jumping out to a monster 26-3 lead after the first quarter, the Gatesville girls basketball team coasted over visiting Jarrell.

With 20 points from McKamie Place, and another 14 from Glynna Johnson, the Lady Hornets stung Jarrell quickly and often.

McGregor girls 54, Salado 47 – At McGregor, Shay Brown scored 21 points and led McGregor over the Salado Lady Eagles.

Hadley Joiner hit three 3-pointers and had 16 points to lead Salado, which also got 11 points from Brennan Boydstun and nine from Carling Urben.

However, the Lady Eagles fell down 24-23 at the half and McGregor used its dominance at the free-throw line to pull past Salado in the fourth quarter. They outscored the Lady Eagles 17-14 in the final frame.

McGregor hit 17-of-23 from the line, while Salado only hit 11-of-18.
