Killeen Daily HeraldThe Gatesville Lady Hornets ran through District 7-3A on the way to the Class 3A Region I quarterfinals, and the Lady Hornets' dominance was reflected as such in 7-3A's all-district selections.
Salado didn't run through a tough District 25-2A, which had the Lady Eagles share the district title with Rogers and Lago Vista, but had its own share of success in the all-district voting.
Leading the way were Gatesville seniors Rachel Edwards and Shelby Watson, who were picked as 7-3A's co-most valuable players. Watson was one of Gatesville's top outside hitters, while Edwards was the key cog in the Lady Hornets' back-row defense.
Sophomore Glynna Johnson was named the district's outstanding hitter and fellow sophomore Kaitlin Poe tied for outstanding setter with Whitney's Wren Bonner. Head coach Rickey Phillips was coach of the year.
Gatesville had a selection each to the first team (Janey Phillips) and second team (Skye Truss), and junior Shelby Strange received honorable mention.
For Salado, junior Hadley Joiner shared the district's most valuable player award with Chandler Voswinkel of Lago Vistra. Brennan Boydstun was named the most valuable setter.
First teamers were juniors Jenna Sebek and Camryn Bintz, while Brittney Frazier was named to the all-district defensive team and Carling Urben to the 25-2A second team.
Florence had two selections, with senior Jessica Wiseman named to the all-district defensive team and senior Jamie Burrow named to the second team.
