Killeen City Council members are slated to return today to a discussion regarding potential changes in the city's feral cat ordinance.

City Manager Connie Green said that the scheduled absence of Councilman Larry Cole, chairman of the animal advisory committee, could delay the council's discussion until next week. But Mayor Timothy Hancock said he would like to hear council members' suggestions and dialogue.

"One person does not stop the show," he said.

The council postponed a vote on the changes, which if passed, requires Killeen residents who tend to what the current ordinance calls "cat colonies" to hold a permit, neuter 50 percent of cats in those colonies and provide annual reports on the status of sterilization.

During the Oct. 27 meeting, council members postponed a vote on the matter so the animal advisory committee could come up with more options to combat what George Fox, president of Assisi Animal Shelter and a member of the animal advisory committee, said is a widespread problem in Killeen.

The council is slated to vote on the ordinance changes during next week's meeting.

Council members are also scheduled to discuss several land use cases including the replat of properties on the south right of way of East Stan Schlueter Loop, the east side of South Fort Hood Street and along the north right of way of Reese Creek Road and Bunny Trail.

The council also is scheduled to discuss the appointment of new members to boards and commissions ordered by council members. Last week's agenda called for the appointment of several new members to various commissions, but the matter was postponed when none of the appointees attended the council meeting.
