The Harker Heights High School Band program plans "A Knight of Giving" – a special concert Tuesday night to help support the Harker Heights High School Communities in School program.
Communities in School is an outreach program that offers needed services to at-risk and at-need students and their families. CIS offers a variety of services including a "back pack" feeding program, clothing closet and social services for the family such as eye care and medical attention. CIS also offers tutoring, grade tracking, homework check and specialized programs such as Prom Promise (promoting a safe and healthy time surrrounding prom). CIS also provides group sessions in "Life Skills," "Passport to Manhood," and "Woman to Woman" to help students stay in school and develop skills to help them be productive contributors to society.
During "A Knight of Giving" the school will be collecting canned vegetables, boxed potatoes, gravy packets, stuffing, yams, canned pumpkin and pie crust, cranberries, hot chocolate, cider, drink packets, cake, brownie, muffin or cookie mixes, marsh mellows, dried onions, cream of mushroom soup or any other nonperishable food items to help make a Thanksgiving meal.
CIS helps support many students with school supplies as well. Items that are currently needed include three-ring binders, folders, pens, pencils, index cards (color), protractors, calculators and back packs.
The "A Knight of Giving" concert will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Harker Heights High School Auditorium and will highlight performances by the Harker Heights High School Jazz Ensembles, directed by Patrick Trahan.
Admission is two cans of food or a donation of school supplies.
For more information about the concert, contact Trahan at 336-0813 or Leslie Durham, CIS-HHHS, at 336-0822.
