A 54-year-old Copperas Cove man died when his truck plummeted onto a highway embankment and rolled several times Friday.

The man was headed eastbound on U.S. Highway 190 in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when he exited at Nola Ruth Road in Harker Heights around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The truck fell down a steep highway embankment onto U.S. Highway 190 after leaving the roadway, a Harker Heights police news release stated.

The man, identified as Royal Gene Minshew Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.

Harker Heights police diverted eastbound traffic for 3½ hours while they investigated the accident, the release stated.
