A handful of local restaurants are conducting fundraisers this week to support the Fort Hood shooting victims and their families.

Texas Roadhouse in Killeen and Genghis Grill in Harker Heights each have fundraiser events today.

The Killeen Fuddruckers is donating a portion of its proceeds from sales through Friday from participating diners who drop their receipt in a fishbowl.

"Every little thing we can do will help," Genghis Grill General Manager Raul Carreon said. "I think it will show appreciation from everybody."

Soldiers represent a significant portion of the clientele at area restaurants, said Joel St. Amant, a managing partner at Texas Roadhouse.

"We have been in the community for 11 years, we always try to be heavily involved in the community," St. Amant said. "What better way to do that than having a good cause to rally behind?"

Texas Roadhouse is offering a free lunch from noon to 3 p.m. today for those who donate $5 or more the Fort Hood AUSA Relief Fund at the restaurant today, stated a news release.

Genghis Grill will be donating all its profits from today's sales to the families, Carreon said. It is also setting up a donation box.

"We are working with Fort Hood PAOs to see how we can get checks directly in the hands of those shooting victims and families," Carreon said.
