Veterans' Day Ceremony in Heights set for Tuesday Posted On: Sunday, Nov. 8 2009 05:31 AM Bookmark and Share

The city of Harker Heights and the Harker Heights Veterans' Council are planning a Veterans Day Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Harker Heights Veteran's Monument, 305 Miller's Crossing.

The city invites the public to pay "tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of our freedom," and the city will be honoring all individuals, past and present, who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, according to a news release.

The guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood.

Remarks will be given by Mayor Ed Mullen before the traditional wreath laying to honor those who gave their lives.

Music will be provided by Tonya Miller and the Ellison High School Choir.

This event is co-sponsored by the city of Harker Heights and the Harker Heights Veterans' Council, which includes representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Purple Hearts, The Retired Enlisted Association, American Veterans Committee, Veterans Advisor, 40/8 Bell County, Military Officers of America Association, the Knights of Columbus, as well as local government and military officials.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the Recreation Center gymnasium.
