Killeen Daily HeraldBELTON – After a rousing speech from Baylor coach Kim Mulkey, who guided the Lady Bears to a NCAA national championship in 2005, the District 12-5A basketball coaches are raring to go.
With girls games starting Tuesday, and boys games starting a week later, all 16 district boys and girls basketball coaches came together Wednesday for their annual District 12-5A media day luncheon.
"It's just like a kick-off deal for us, to get us (coaches) going," said Harker Heights coach Celneque Bobbitt.
Promoting defense and a no-nonsense attitude toward coaching, Mulkey instructed and answered questions the coaches had on issues regarding dealing with everything from hotshot players to intrusive parents.
"When we get together as coaches and get to talk about it and relay some of the things we're doing, and hear other coaches talk, you walk away from here and say, 'Alright, it's basketball time – it's time to tip it up,'" said Belton boys coach John Osborn, the event coordinator.
