Q&A with Ellison point guard Alisha Jones Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 4 2009 04:59 AM Bookmark and Share
Ht: 5-7 Pos: Point guard Class: Senior

Q: After reaching the playoffs last season for the first time in a long time, what are the expectations this season?

A: This year, we don't plan on being fourth in district – we're actually planning on being first, but we know we have to work for it. ... (And) we plan on going far in playoffs this year and shocking a lot of people.

Q: You and fellow senior Desiree Wylie have been on varsity all four years. Do you feel like you complement each other well?

A: Yes. We've learned each other's roles now. Like if I shoot a shot, she knows where to go to get a rebound, and if she gets the ball in the post, I know where to go, like she doesn't pass the ball where she's looking so I know which side of her eyes she's going to be looking when she wants to pass it, because we know each other by now.

Q: If you could compare your combination to other great tandems, who would it be?

A: I guess you could say kinda like Shaq and Kobe, yeah, Shaq and Kobe.

Q: What are some of the things you do well as a tandem?

A: It's basically like certain passes that she can get that others can't get over her because she can jump really high. So we've worked on passes that she can get and get the easy layup.

Q: Do you all have fun when you are out there together?

A: When me and her are out, it's crazy. I can't explain the feeling when me and her are playing together, it's just that there's more energy when we're out there together.

Q: What do you think the team needs to overcome if you are going to accomplish those goals?

A: I think we overcame everything last year. Our motto is "United we stand, divided we fall" and we stand by it. The whole team is basically best friends, we all hang out with each other on weekends, everything.
