From staff reports

A 25-year-old Fort Hood soldier was killed when an automobile struck him while he crossed a street late Friday night.

Around 11 p.m., a 2005 Mazda Tribute was driving northbound on Clear Creek Road when Robert Walden, 25, of Fort Hood, tried to cross the street. The Mazda struck Walden near Janelle Drive.

Paramedics rushed Walden to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he died. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced him dead at 11:45 p.m, a Killeen police news release stated Saturday.

No charges are pending against the driver of the Mazda as of Saturday. The accident happened at a dimly-lit portion of the road where there is no streetlight or crosswalks.

The accident closed northbound Clear Creek Road for over an hour while a Killeen police accident team investigated the scene.
