Temple-based Cloud Construction Co. Inc. will begin construction on the 32nd Killeen elementary school on Dec. 1, pending cost approval by the school board.

Construction on the Killeen Independent School District property, which is estimated to cost around $18 million for the school at 7001 Bunny Trail in Killeen, should be complete by spring of 2011, said Perry Cloud, president of Cloud Construction, on Friday.

School would begin in the fall of 2011, said KISD spokeswoman Leslie Gilmore.

In May, the school board approved a land purchase for the new elementary school after reports that Reeces Creek Elementary in southwest Killeen was over capacity by about 500 students. There are more than 1,200 students enrolled at Reeces Creek this year.

Cloud Construction landed the contract over the summer and has built schools for the district for more than 50 years. Most recently, Cloud built Patterson Middle School in Killeen and Richard E. Cavazos Elementary in Nolanville.

Though officials are unsure of how many students the 32nd elementary school will hold, Cloud said it will share an "identical" design with Richard E. Cavazos, which has an enrollment of 640 students.

On Nov. 10, Cloud Construction will present a cost analysis to the school board for approval. If approved, the company will break ground on Dec. 1. Though Cloud would not comment on the exact price that will be presented to the board, the city of Killeen issued a building permit valued at $18.1 million this week for the school.
