Fort Hood soldier killed in Afghanistan

Fort Hood officials announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Spc. Brandon Keith Steffey, 23, of Sault Sainte Marie, MI, died Sunday in Laghman province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with a roadside bomb.
Steffey joined the military in August 2006 as a military police officer and was assigned to the 178th Military Police Detachment, 89th Military Police Brigade, III Corps, and had been stationed at Fort Hood since February 2007.
Steffey was deployed in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from May 2007 through July 2008 and Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2009 through October 2009. Steffey's decorations and awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal-Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Marksmanship Qualification Badge.
