Whether it is your first tournament of the season or if you have entered every one, come out this Halloween for the CG Scramble. Registration is 10 to 11:15 a.m. with the shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The format is a four-person scramble and the golfers on each team must be from the same brigade/ battalion/directorate with the exception of one invited guest. The $30-per-person fee includes greens fee, cart fee and prizes. For an additional $5, golfers may purchase three mulligans. Open to active-duty soldiers and Department of the Army civilian employees (in leave status) and one guest per team. The first 36 teams registered will play. Nov. 6-7
Fort Hood Child, Youth and School Services proudly present NBA Legends Otis Birdsong and Wally Jones in the Champions 4 Champions Basketball Clinic on Nov. 6. All are invited to the High Chaparral Youth Center from 8 to 9:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with the legends, who will then hold a basketball clinic at Abrams Physical Fitness Center on Nov. 7. Kids ages 7 to 12 are invited from 8 a.m to noon, while 13 to 17 year olds are invited from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration is required and are going on now until Nov. 6 at the Youth Sports and Fitness Office on Tank Destroyer Blvd., Building 6602 (inside Bronco Youth Center). Nov. 15-16
Central Texas College and Fort Hood Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation are hosting the 2008 Fort Hood Combatives Invitational at Abrams Physical Fitness Center. Similar to Ultimate Fight Championship, combatives is a type of physical contact training used by soldiers in defense situations. The invitational is open to active-duty, reserve and National Guard soldiers. The weigh-in is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 14. Participants must have a current physical fitness exam. Nov. 21
Fort Hood Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation's sports division is hosting the second annual Fort Hood Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk Nov. 21 at Hood Stadium. The race kicks off 8 a.m. Registration is free and participants may stop by any of the Fort Hood physical fitness centers now through the day of the race to register. The first 150 registrants to register will receive a commemorative T-shirt. For additional information, call (254) 285-5459.

Dec. 28
Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area will host a Paintball Tournament from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 28. The cost of the tournament is $75 per team or $15 per person, if registered before Dec. 14. The cost for late registration is $125 per team or $25 per person. Each participant receives a rental gun and all day air. Additional fees apply to paintballs and they must be purchased at BLORA. Now
Volunteer coaches are needed for youth basketball and cheerleading. Teams will be formed in December, with the season running thru mid-March 2009. Call (254) 288-3770 for more information.

Bronco Youth Center has a fall baseball team and is in need of players ages 8 to 12 years old. If you have a son or daughter who would like to play baseball for the next month and a half on a traveling team and likes to play baseball, then please call (254) 220-6365 or come out to practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Bronco Youth Center ball field.

Sundays
NFL fans are welcome to come out and watch your favorite, hometown team every Sunday with free popcorn at the Backbone Lounge. Beverages and snack foods will be available for purchase. There are nine flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure with every game on Sunday available to be watched. Open to the public (18 years and older). The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and stay open until 8 p.m. (or the last afternoon game ends). For more information, call (254) 532-5073.

November through February
Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area is offering watercraft rental discounts through Feb. 28. The discount applies to all watercraft rentals, but does not include the cost of the fuel. BLORA Boat Dock Winter operation hours are October to March, Wednesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and holidays. Watercraft rentals are open to active-duty soldiers, airmen, reservists, retirees, National Guard soldiers and families, Gold Star family members, Defense Department civilian employees and their families.

Every Texas boater born on or after Sept. 1, 1984, must successfully complete an approved boat education course. This law is in effect for boats of 10 horsepower or more, windblown vessels over 14 feet and personal watercraft (Jet Ski). For more information, call (254) 287-2523.
