As ghost, goblins, and other creepy things go bump in the night, Fort Hood's Directorate of Emergency Services wants to remind all parents of scary, funny, or heroic characters about Halloween safety.
Pre-plan your trick-or-treat route with your child. As you plan, also consider a safe pre-determined meeting spot should you or your children become separated. It is a good idea to also plan to trick-or- treat as a group with trusted friends or neighbors. It is important to remember "safety in numbers."
Make sure that if you are traveling in groups to have a buddy system rule. Check your children's costume for reflective, bright-colored or other clothing materials to help motorist see your children at night.
Know the sight and movement limitations of the costume. While walking at night, flashlights, chem-lights or other light sources are highly recommended to have and use.
Inspect your children's treats, if in doubt of the treat, discard it.
Please report any suspicious activity to a police officer or Dial 9-1-1. All Fort Hood residents must abide by Fort Hood Regulation 210-48, it is important to have line of sight of your children. Halloween trick-or-treat hours for village residents are 6 to 8 p.m.
