From staff reports

The award winning Demos in the Dark: Things That Go Boom and Bang in the Night will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Lucile Capt Amphitheater on the campus of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Theamphitheater is at the corner of Ninth Avenue and King Street beside the Mabee Student Center. In case of rain, the program will be postponed to a later date.

Admission is a canned or non-perishable food item (per person please), which will be donated to a local food bank. Raffle tickets will be given to individuals who bring food items (multiple tickets will be given to individuals who bring multiple food items). Door prizes will be awarded during the program using the raffle tickets.

The program is a big attraction for elementary students, but according to the Program Director, Dr. Darrell Watson, "The show is for children of every age." Everyone is invited to attend and join in on the fun.

Demos in the Dark will feature a series of controlled fires and explosions, exciting demonstrations such as the electric pickle, the UMHB fire jug, purple flames, strange voices, dry ice tower of colors, banging balloons and many others. Young attendees will receive helium-filled balloons, "slime," and liquid nitrogen tasty treats (as long as they last).

The Sigma-Pi Chemistry Club of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Heart O'Texas Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the chemistry department of UMHB will sponsor this event to celebrate National Chemistry Week, which is Oct. 18-24.
