KEMPNER – Kempner Water Supply Corporation issued a boil water notice Monday, asking its customers to take precautions in order to make their water safe to drink.

According to the notice posted outside the supply corporation's building on U.S. Highway 190, Kempner Water Supply received water that was below state standards from the Central Texas Water Supply Corporation's treatment plant over the weekend.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the notice because water samples at Kempner Water Supply fell below 0.5 parts per million chlorine residuals, according to the posting.

"The problem is corrected, but until all bacteriological samples are taken by both CTWSC and KWSC and pass lab standards, KWSC will remain on a boil water notice," it said.

Kempner Water Supply asked customers to boil all water used for cooking, drinking and making ice. The notice advised water should be brought to a "vigorous boil," then boiled for two minutes and cooled before use.

Lampasas City Manager Michael Stoldt said even though Lampasas gets its water from the supply corporation, the city does not need a boil water notice because Kempner Water Supply treated the water before it was sent on.

"Because Kempner caught it and added chlorine to the water as it was going into their system, by the time it got to us, it met minimum disinfections requirements," he said.

Kempner Water Supply Corporations customers remain under the boil water warning until further notice. The notice is also posted on the corporation's Web site at www.kempnerwsc.com.
