Bell County Extension Finding reliable resources of health and wellness information can be a challenge.
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Cooperative Extension Program have provided Texans with guidance in various health areas and are now training volunteers to provide more communities with the education and tools needed for healthy living.
The Bell County Master Wellness Volunteer Program provides participants with 40 hours of training in health and nutrition education and in return, participants agree to give back 40 hours of service.
Volunteer opportunities are diverse, including giving presentations for local community groups, assisting with periodic cooking schools and passing out information at health fairs.
Previous health or wellness training is not required, but an interest in living healthfully and helping others do the same is.
Volunteer training for the program will be held Fridays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 and Feb. 5. All of the training sessions will be in the board room of the Bell County Extension Office at 1605 N. Main in Belton.
Training will focus on physical activity, nutrition, food safety, food demonstrations, child health, and various Extension nutrition, health and wellness programs. There is a $50 fee to participate.
