Burch’s big game lifts Liberty Hill 7A

Liberty Hill 7A 32, Eastern Hills 7A 6 — Deon Burch scored on runs of 60 and 41 yards and tossed a 45-yard TD pass to Keyshawn Little to lead the Lions to a victory.
Burch also scored a 2-point conversion.
Wade Bellomy added scoring runs of 50 and 45 yards for Liberty Hill.
Andrew Frison had a 42-yard run. Defensive standouts were Elijah Stump and Isaiah Tovar.
Nolan 7A 36, Patterson 7A 20 — Derrick Thomas scored three touchdowns and Keondre Parker-Shepard added two in the Mustangs' win.
Thomas scored on runs of 65, 8 and 50 yards and added three two-point conversions. Parker-Shepard took the opening kickoff of the second half for an 80-yard TD and scored on a 6-yard run.
Marquis Domonter, Michael Kulu and Anthony Widerstrom each recovered fumbles for Nolan (3-1). Vince Lobendahn, Chris Barber, Dennis Goodman and Christian Manalang were other defensive standouts.
Marcus Godwin, Garrett Hall and Dominique Harris were offensive standouts. The seventh-grade Mustangs travel to Smith next week.
Union Grove 7A 28, Palo Alto 7A 0 — At Palo Alto, Jordan Harris ran for two touchdowns and the Grizzlies recovered six fumbles to win the AFC Division opener.
Union Grove (4-0) led all the way after pouncing on a fumble on the opening kickoff and scoring on its first series.
Thai Goodwin had a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Brandon Walls had one touchdown, and Brian Thomas had a 2-point conversion.
Philip Bryant caught a crucial first-down pass late in the game from quarterback Troy Smith, and the offensive line of Michael Cassell, T.J. Piekarski, Stephen Crowder, Dominic Holt, Taylor Norvell and CJ Bobbitt picked up the Palo Alto blitzers for a strong second half of offense.
Aided by the fumbles, the Grizzlies defense got its first shutout of the year. Standouts were Chris Lewis (sack, two fumbles caused, one recovered), Micheal Williams (2 tackles for loss, fumble recovery), Michael Woods (caused fumble), Ryan Turck (caused fumble, two fumble recoveries), Ethan Atkisson (caused fumble, 20-yard fumble return) and Danyawn Pettus (fumble caused, fumble recovered).
Running backs Calvin Johnson and Stacy Carter were offensive standouts for the defeated Patriots. Broderick Reed led the defense.
Palo Alto's seventh-graders travel to Liberty Hill next week. Union Grove's seventh-graders host Live Oak Ridge on Tuesday.
Liberty Hill 7B 14, Eastern Hills 7B 0 — Christian Del Pozo scored on a 52-yard touchdown run and passed to Jamal Kimble for the 2-point conversion to lift the Lions to a win.
Samuel Grimes scored on a 23-yard run. Defensive standouts were Eddie Wallace, Keyshawn Abrams, Trenton Rivera, JJ Hontz and Ryan Blas.
Patterson 7B 20, Nolan 7B 0 — Michael Eveans, Dominick Eisenhaur and Alvin Amos were defensive standouts for the defeated Mustangs (0-4). Lavierre Rice and Zayvon Baker were offensive standouts.
Union Grove 7B 14, Palo Alto 7B 0 — At Palo Alto, fullback Jason Viruet rushed two yards for his first touchdown of the season and the Grizzlies recorded their third shutout of the season.
Carlson Goode connected with tight end Tristyn Anderson on a 25-yard pass for the second touchdown. Goode also hit Raquine Johnson for the 2-point conversion completing the scoring. Other outstanding players on offense for Union Grove (4-0, 1-0 AFC division) were Armond Brady, D'Undre Mitchell, and Corey Shedrock.
Defensive standouts were Mitchell Anderson (1 tackle for loss), Aric Austin (two sacks, TFL), Devran Perkins (TFL), Andrew Lankford (two sacks, two TFL) and Andrew Rose (sack).
After a scoreless first half, the Patriots unraveled in the fourth quarter. Fullback Josh Davis was an offensive standout. Devin Dotson recorded a sack.
The Grizzlies recorded the shutout despite the Patriots driving all the way to the Union Grove 3 on the first series.
Eastern Hills 8A 14, Liberty Hill 8A 6 — Arturo Guzman and Dyeon Foster lad the victorious Panthers with powerful running behind the offensive line of Miquel Zamora, Bobbie Brown, Dalton Emery, Logan Fox, Mark Wilson and Colin Christie.
The Panthers had one touchdown nullified and were inside the Liberty Hill 5 as time expired
Jordan Oliver, Josh Hicks, Kyle Foster, Cody Kipp, Lamont Alexander, Esteban Cruz and Bashar Saunders-Wilson were defensive standouts for Eastern Hills (3-0).
Jarrel Taylor scored on a 45-yard run for Liberty Hill. Other offensive standouts were Ronnie Edwards and Travis Saravia. Defensive standouts were Anthony Warren and Austin Lorenzo.
The eighth-grade Panthers travel to Rancier next week.
Union Grove 8A 16, Palo Alto 8A 0 — At Leo Buckley Stadium, the Grizzlies defense extended its shutout streak to four games and handed the Patriots their first loss of the season.
Union Grove (4-0, 1-0 division) scored on its first possession with a 10-yard pass from quarterback Josh Delaney to receiver Tre Edwards. The Grizzlies wouldn't score again until running back Marcus Anderson's 40-yard run in the fourth quarter behind a key block from Brandon Cook.
Defensive standouts for the Grizzlies were safeties Tyrone BonHomme, Tony Thomas,and David Gaskamp; defensive ends Quahary Bobbit and Devlin Smith; linebackers Wilson Owens and Joseph Alaniz; and tackles Matthew Longoria and Tyrone Davis.
Defensive standouts for Palo Alto were Malik Clemons, Alex McIntyre, John Shegog and Miguel Fierro.
Union Grove 8B vs. Palo Alto 8B, ccd. — Quarterback Caleb Tomgenovich scored on a 30-yard run for Union Grove before the game was called because of lightning.
S.C. Lee 8A 42, Lake Belton 8A 0 — At Copperas Cove, Miles Stanton and Cepadro Thomas ran for touchdowns and Chris Cottrell tossed a scoring pass to Fred Sandoval.
Thomas opened the scoring by returning a fumble caused by Shaquille Fluelen. Michael Aguirre intercepted a Lake Belton pass to stop a scoring threat in the third quarter. Strong guard Malcolm Zeigler was another standout.
Middle School Volleyball
Union Grove 7A def. Palo Alto 7A 21-25, 25-21, 15-11 — At Union Grove, Candyce Williams served nine points and the Grizzlies opened division play with a victory.
Other scorers for Union Grove were Gillian Pons (five points), Marisol Wuilleumier and Jazmine Buggs (four each), Natasha St. Hilaire and Alana Dickerson (three each) and Gloria Kim (one).
The seventh-grade Grizzlies travel to Live Oak on Thursday.
Liberty Hill 7A def. Eastern Hills 7A 25-20, 28-26 — Kiara Artis served 13 points and the Lady Lions won their division opener.
Other scorers for Liberty Hill (2-1) were Miranda Tapia and Alexis Weisheit (12 points each), Kaylai Lewis (eight), Brandy Wilson (five) and Lashayla Rider (three).
The seventh-grade Lady Lions travel to Palo Alto on Thursday.
Patterson 7A def. Nolan 7A 25-9, 25-8 — Outstanding defensive players for the defeated Lady Mustangs were Kayla Kearney, Veronica Dessus, Alysia Espanda and Alexanderea Brooks.
Liberty Hill 7B def. Eastern Hills 7B 25-21, 25-21 — Jasonica Moore served 15 points to help the Lady Lions stay unbeaten.
The LHMS 7th grade "B" remained undefeated with a season record of 3-0 and a district record of 1-0 by beating EHMS last night at home 25 – 21, 25 – 21!

Palo Alto 7B def. Union Grove 7B 25-19, 25-11 — At Union Grove, Amber Turner served seven points to lead the Grizzlies, who lost for the first time this season.
Other scorers for Union Grove were Anna Hebert (three points) and Daysha Cepeda and Marriana Warren (one each).
Union Grove 8A def. Palo Alto 8A 25-16, 25-17 — Bianca Yerry served six points in a row to ignite the Grizzlies after shaky start.
Union Grove (4-0) never trailed in the second game and handed the Patriots their third loss of the season.
Other contributors for the Grizzlies were Madison Stanley (10 points, two aces). Madison Stebbins (seven points, two aces, Yerry (six points and an ace), Keyauna Billups and Kyla Menefee (three points each), Alexis Ridley and Joy Moton (two each) and Angela Delaney (one).
Emily Cumming played the libero position for the first time and had a good night in the back row. Chante Mitchell had the only kill of the match.
The eighth-grade Grizzlies host Live Oak Ridge next week.
Patterson 8A def. Nolan 8A 26-24, 13-25, 15-4 — Caila Butler, Halleigh Clark, Madelyn Ferrell Brianna Fugate, Adriona Hill, Olyvia Lee, Diamond Mills, Carly Reavis, Ashlie Scaglliusi, Carolyn Thompson, and Bailey Wade were standouts for the defeated Lady Mustangs.
Nolan fell to 2-3 (0-1 division).
Nolan 8B def. Patterson 8B 25-17, 25-19 — Top servers DeJa Martin and Alexis Dudeck led the Lady Mustangs to their first victory.
Erendira Carreon, Rachel Wigger and Destiny De La Cruz were defensive standouts for Nolan (1-4, 1-0 division). Also contributing were C'eante Anderson, Kajal Bhakta, Alexus Godwin, Audrey Manning, Stephanie Rodgers and Brandy Rojo.
Union Grove 8B def. Palo Alto 8B 23-25, 25-13, 15-7 — At Palo Alto, Mone't Bennett served 11 points — including two aces — to help the undefeated Grizzlies to a win.
Tatyana Mundo Bowers served nine points and had an ace. Other contributors for Union Grove 94-0, 1-0 division) were Kathleen Janda (eight points), Nicole Zimmerman (four), Darian Tillis (two) and Amanda Bailey (one). Kathleen Janada had a kill.

Live Oak Ridge 7B def. Rancier 7B 25-22, 25-19 — Captain Jasmine Rhodes served nine points to lead the Lady Lobos. Janelle Nunez added six.
Live Oak Ridge 7A def. Rancier 7A 23-25, 25-15, 15-11 — Captain Asalei Sue served 13 straight points early in the second game to lead the Lady Lobos to a win.
Bri'anna Gray added seven aces.
Cove JH 7B def. Belton in 3 — At Belton, Rachel Jost was an offensive standout for the Lady Pups. Olivia Nordin earned the defensive honor.
Cove JH 8B def. Belton 8B in 3 — At Belton, Donea Smith was the offensive player of the game for the winning Lady Pups. Tori Elision earned the defensive honor.
Belton 7A def. Copperas Cove Junior High 7A in 3 — At Belton, Lillian Drever was the offensive standout for the Lady Pups. Kelsie Ash was a defensive standout.
Liberty Hill 8B def. Eastern Hills 8B 25-6, 24-26, 15-2 — Danielle Rivera served 22 points to lead the Lady Lions to a win.

Crush def. Panthers 3-0 — Charlene Shepherd led the crush with her leadership and great play. Alexia Wilkinson and Kiora Baker had great serving and defense for the Crush.
Knights def. Wildcats 3-0 — Sydney Brock, Vinessa Sanford and Layla were noted for great play on defense and offense for the Knights.
5th/6th Grade
Aggies def. Comets 2-1 — Belinda Reese led the charge for the Aggies, displaying great serving and defense.Morgan Johnson chipped in with a couple of key points and stops for the Aggies.
Alifonsa Martinez helped the Comets win one of the three games.
Elite def. Mystics 2-1 — Marissa Franklin led the attack with several key serves. Tiara Joyner and Emily Beach were all noted for great hustle.
Shock def. Bears 2-1 — Kaireyoan Franklin helped her team win two out of three games. Carmen Williams was another standout.
Destroyers Football
Killeen Destroyers (flag) 32, Pflugerville Hawks White 0 — The Destroyers (3-1) held the Hawks to only one first down.
Five different players scored for Killeen.
Killeen Destroyers (rookie tackle) 23, Pflugerville Hawks White 7 —Bailee Turpin scored on runs of 8 and 7 yards. DJ Payton scored on a 55-yard run.
The Destroyers (2-2) defense forced five fumbles and recovered four.
Heletos Panthers 18, Killeen Destroyers (junior tackle) 6 — The only score for the Destroyers (0-4) was a run by Kylan Herrera.
The Panthers scored with two touchdown passes.
Today, the Destroyers battle the Killeen Colts at KLSS Stadium on Rancier. Action begins at 10 a.m.
