Omar Johnson scored all of the Panthers' points as Eastern Hills' seventh-grade A squad defeated Audie Murphy 26-8 in middle school football action Tuesday.

Johnson scored on runs of 4, 3 and 60 yards and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Carl Dickens. Johnson also added a 2-point conversion for the Panthers (1-1).

Audie Murphy trailed 26-0 before scoring a late touchdown.

Other offensive standouts for Eastern Hills were Justin Ellis, Dylan Cathey, Joshua Weekes and Sedderian Chambers. Chris Duncan, Ervin Barco, Ezequiel Vasquez, Rysheki Garritt, Lorenzo Dobbs and Layne Broihier led the defensive effort.

Eastern Hills' seventh-graders return to action Oct. 6 against Liberty Hill.

Union Grove 7A 30, Nolan 7A 12 – At Nolan, Brian Thomas scored three touchdowns and the Grizzlies dominated the second half of their win.

Thomas scored on a 12-yard pass, a 30-yard run and a 65-yard kickoff return in which he broke at least six tackles.

Jordan Harris scored the other Grizzly touchdown on a tough run up the middle. Harris also scored two extra-point conversions and provided tough blocking. Philip Bryant caught the last Grizzly extra-point conversion. Other offensive standouts were quarterback Troy Smith and McLane Matthews.

Nolan scored first, but the Grizzlies came right back to finish the first half with an 8-6 lead.

Michael Williams led the Union Grove defense. Other defensive standouts were linebacker Ryan Turck (two sacks) and safeties Michael Woods, Jordan Weller and Steven Viguers.

Chris Lewis had a fourth-down sack which stopped a late Mustang drive.

Derrick Thomas scored both touchdowns, including a 28-yard run, for the Mustangs.

Keondre Parker-Shepard was another offensive standout for Nolan. Defensively, Drequan Jackson picked off a pass at the end of the first half. Marquis Domonter had two tackles for losses.

The Union Grove seventh-graders travel to Audie Murphy on Tuesday.

Smith 7A 22, Live Oak Ridge 7A 6 – Nick Perez scored twice and the Leopards overcame an early deficit.

Live Oak Ridge took a 6-0 lead with a long run on its opening possession, but it was all Smith after that.

Smith answered with a 52-yard TD drive, capped by Perez, who also added the 2-point conversion for an 8-6 lead.

Perez and fullback Ishmael Price added second-half scores and quarterback Anthony Fallias-Arce ran in a 2-point conversion to extend the Leopards' lead.

Perez had two interceptions on the defensive side. Kris Wright recovered a fumble. Dalani Young was another defensive standout.

Palo Alto 7A 18, Manor 7A 0 – At Palo Alto, fullback Stacy Carter scored on two long runs and the Patriots blanked the Rams.

Shannon Bogues tossed a touchdown pass to Calvin Johnson in the second quarter.

Defensive standouts for the Patriots were Keshon Horton, Le'trae Gant, Tolly James, Nick Bartz and Broderick Reed.

The Palo Alto seventh graders travel to Nolan next week.

S.C. Lee 7A 34, Belton 7A 22 – At Belton, Trent Canion scored four second-half touchdowns and the Cougars rallied from an 8-6 halftime deficit.

CB Demario Sales was a defensive standout for Lee (1-1).

The Lee seventh-graders host Temple Bonham on Monday.

Union Grove 7B 24, Nolan 7B 8 – Carlson Goode tossed a pair of touchdown passes to D'undre Mitchell and the Grizzlies cruised to a victory.

Goode opened the scoring with a 24-yard strike to Mitchell, then connected with Mitchell again for a 35-yard TD. Javier Prensa ran for a 40-yard TD just before halftime and Union Grove led 18-0.

Quarterback Corey Shedrock capped the scoring in the second half with a 55-yard run.

Defensive standouts for the Grizzlies were safeties Yves Bottex and Mitchell Anderson-Martin and cornerback Zachary Golaboff. Other offensive standouts were Tristyn Anderson, Juwuan Wright and Zane Wilson.

Laviere Rice scored on a 42-yard run and Jonathan Hampton added the 2-point conversion for the Mustangs. Marco Gonzalez scooped up a fumble and Tristan Carman, Dvaughnte Davis and Isaac Garcia were other defensive standouts.

Palo Alto 7B 22, Manor 7B 0 – At Palo Alto, fullback Josh Davis scored a pair of touchdowns and the Patriots had little trouble with their soggy field.

Davis also had a 2-point conversion. Halfback Joey Icmat added another touchdown and Gonzalo Puente ran for a 2-point score.

Teneak Hall and Justin Horns were defensive standouts.

S.C. Lee 7B 24, Belton 7B 0 – At Belton, Jaben Taylor ran for a pair of touchdowns in the Cougars win.

CB Devyn Carter led the shutout effort on defense. Lee is 2-0.

S.C. Lee 7C 0, Copperas Cove Junior High 7C 0, tie – Offensive standouts for the Cougars (0-1-1) in the stalemate were QB Luke Mitchell and running backs Davonte Brown and Alex Machine. Linemen Dontae Carter and David Castillo were defensive standouts.

Eastern Hills 8A 34, Audie Murphy 8A 0 – At Audie Murphy, Dyeon Foster scored two early touchdowns and the Panthers rolled to a shutout victory.

Foster scored on runs of 15 and 30 yards and added a 2-point conversion as the Panthers (2-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead.

Kijana Kolbusz picked up a Murphy fumble and ran it back for a score to put Eastern Hills up 20-0.

Arturo Guzman ran 45 yards for the next touchdown and the Panthers led 26-0.

Roderick Tyner broke loose for a 40-yard TD and Bashar Saunders-Wilson scored the 2-point conversion on a quarterback sneak from the 8-yard line after a delay of game penalty to round out the scoring.

Dalton Emery and Trenton Jones also helped spark the Panther offense.

John Voet picked off a Murphy pass and ran it back for a touchdown, but it was nullified by a penalty on the return. Cody Kipp, Kyle Foster and Thomas Howard also had fumble recoveries for the Panthers. Josh Hicks, Jordan Oliver and Lamont Alexander had outstanding defensive plays.

Union Grove 8A 30, Nolan 8A 0 – Josh Delaney ran and passed for a touchdown and Marcus Anderson rushed for a pair of scores as the Grizzlies posted their second straight shutout.

Delaney connected with Damaria Moon on a 20-yard touchdown pass and ran for a 5-yard TD. He also hooked up with tight end Tony Barnes on a 40-yard gain and two 2-point conversions.

Anderson scored on runs of 10 and 20 yards.

The Grizzlies (2-0) forced the Mustangs to commit three turnovers. Safeties Tyrone BonHomme and David Gaskamp each intercepted a Nolan pass, and defensive end Quahary Bobbit recovered a fumble on a

goal-line stand. Other defensive standouts were linebackers Wilson Owens and Joseph Alaniz, ends Devlin Smith and Tony Barnes, who recorded 2 sacks, safeties Tony Thomas and Tyrone Davis and cornerback Bryson Carter.

Palo Alto 8A 21, Manor 8A 0 – The Patriots led all the way after Jerry McClemore's touchdown run at the end of Palo Alto's opening drive.

The TD was set up by Nahome Anderson's 34-yard catch. Xavier Crumpler added the 2-point conversion.

Miguel Fierro and Lajuarren Burks also scored touchdowns for Palo Alto. Other offensive standouts were Christian Vascot and Rayshun Spearman.

John Shegog recovered two fumbles for the Patriots defense to stop scoring threats. Alex McIntyre also recovered a fumble. Free safety Jorge Oquendo had a late interception to preserve the shutout. Other defensive standouts were Myles Scott and Malik Clemons.

Belton 8A 22, S.C. Lee 8A 8 – At Bulldawg Stadium, quarterback Chris Cottrell scored the lone points for the defeated Cougars (1-1) with a touchdown and 2-point conversion.

Running backs Miles Stanton and Cepadro Thomas were other offensive standouts. CB Fred Sandoval, linebackers Cepadro Thomas and Kapua Camacho and inside linebackers Stanton and Shaquille Fluelen were defensive standouts.

The eighth-grade Cougars travel to Temple Bonham on Tuesday.

Union Grove 8B 8, Nolan 8B 0 – Calen Tomgenovich tossed a 35-yard pass to Austin Roden as time ran out in the first half for the game's only touchdown. The two hooked up again for the 2-point conversion and the Grizzlies improved to 2-0.

Linebackers Warren Jones and Quincy McKennon led a Union Grove defense that kept Nolan from picking up a first down the entire first half. Defensive tackle Zach Scarr and linebacker Benaiah Santos each recovered Nolan fumbles. Other defensive standouts were ends Kevin Orta and Joseph Gordon, tackles Brandon Squires and Chase Davidson, cornerbacks Darius Mitchell and Caleb Dean and safeties Cody Burke and DeMarcus Hegens.

Belton 8B 14, S.C. Lee 8B 8 – At Bulldawg Stadium, QB Trevor Kilpatrick and Darius Coleman were offensive standouts for the defeated Cougars (1-1).

CB Hunter Wehemeire picked off a Belton pass.

Belton 8C 14, S.C. Lee 8C 0 – At Belton, Belton scored on the opening kickoff and went on the shut out the Cougars.

Lee finished the game on the BMS 3-yard line as time ran out.

LB Justin Maples and RB Rodney Dykes were standouts for the Cougars (0-2).

SEPT. 14-16

S.C. Lee 8A 18, Temple Travis 8A 6 – Cepadro Thomas and Miles Stanton scored in the Cougars' season-opening victory. Chris Cottrell returned a Travis fumble for another touchdown.

Other offensive standouts for Lee were QB Kapua Comacho, TE Ethan Wagner, tackles Killian Klepinger and Darius Sherman, guards David Castillo and Malcolm Zeigler and C Josh Deland. Defensive standouts were linebackers Elijah Timarky and Shaq Fluelen, defensive backs Michael Aguirre, Fred Sandoval and Quentin Terry and ends Ben Myer and Septimis Forbes.

S.C. Lee 8B 14, Temple Travis 8B 6 – Offensive standouts for the winning Cougars were RB Ka'Vasco Jasper, QB Trevor Kilpatrick, TE Michel Helbing, OT Robert Douglas, OT Jamal Baskerville, G William Pagonis, OG Alex Bail and C Damion Zeig. CB Darius Coleman and linebackers George Lowe, Matthew Patterson and Darius Jeffries were defensive standouts.

Academy 8, S.C. Lee 8C 0 – Dylan Worden and Jonathan Brown were offensive standouts for the defeated Cougars. Linebacker Michael McCoy, cornerback Ean Falkenstein and lineman Adarsh Bhakta were defensive standouts.

Temple Travis 7A 18, S.C. Lee 7A 0 – Turnovers doomed the Cougars to a loss. RB Elijah Odomes was an offensive standout. LB Trent Canion led the defense.

S.C. Lee 7B 28, Temple Travis 7B 12 – Isaiah Hutchison scored all four touchdowns in the Cougars win. Brandon Greenlee was a defensive standout.

Academy def. S.C. Lee 7C – The Cougars led until Academy scored on an interception return in the fourth quarter.

RB Alex Machine and FB Nathaniel Cerniglia were offensive standouts for Lee. Hakeem Hankerson and Devantae Carter were defensive standouts.

Junior varsity football

Copperas Cove JV A 35, Ellison JV A 18 – At Copperas Cove, Austin Greene ran for two touchdowns and passed for two others in the Bulldawgs' victory.

Greene scored on runs of 1 and 12 yards, tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Chad Thomas and a 63-yarder to Jason Hope. Greene also kicked three extra points and tossed a 2-point conversion pass to Matt Hall.

Tyrone Purnell scored Cove's other touchdown, a 4-yard run that gave the Dawgs a 27-0 halftime lead.

Other Cove offensive standouts were RB Chris Rainey, OL Robert Nelson, OL Tyler Gilbert and TE Darren McPhail. DB Najee Adams, DB Tommy Rhodes, LB Mark Branch and DE Jason Lyons were defensive standouts.

Cove JV B 22, Ellison JV B 18 – At Copperas Cove, Rafael George scored on runs of 36 and 11 yards in the Bulldawgs' win.

Andre White added a 3-yard TD run. Armando Gutierrez made two extra-points and George had a 2-point conversion.

Other offensive standouts for Cove were WR Brandon Jones, OL Dathan Sanchez and OL JP Gonzalez. DL KeAndre Harris had two sacks and caused two fumbles. LB Alex Almarez and DL Brandon Garland were other standouts.

Volleyball

Patterson 8A def. Rancier 8A 25-10, 25-13 – Miara Elmore, Kayla Ryals, Jessica Lee and Aliyah Lane were standouts for the defeated Lady Ka-Roos.

Rancier 8B def. Patterson 8B 10-25, 25-14, 15-6 – Top servers Kiara Lawton, Ashley Neher, Kiana Elmore and Keona Watkins led the Lady Ka-Roos to a comeback victory.

Union Grove 7th Gold def. Manor 7th 25-13, 25-19 – At Union Grove, Talis Houston served 12 points and the Grizzlies won their home opener.

Other scorers for Union Grove were India Webster, Faith Burress and Daysha Cepeda (three points each), Candyce Williams (two) and Miciah Redell, Marianna Warren, Amber Turner and Anna Hebert (one each). Alexis Valdez was another standout.

Nolan 7th def. Union Grove 7th White 26-24, 24-26, 18-16 – Top server for the defeated Grizzlies was Natasha St. Hilaire with 11 points.

Other scorers for Union Grove were Alana Dickerson (seven points, three aces), Jazmine Buggs (six) points, Gillian Pons and Corely Raven (five each) and Cathy Reniker and Katelyn Jenkins (two each). Jade Robinson was a defensive standout.

The seventh-grade Grizzlies host Audie Murphy on Monday.

S.C. Lee 7A def. Belton 7A – Mikayla Blount led the Lady Cougars to a sweep of Belton on Monday. Destinee' Tolefoa was a defensive standout.

Cierra Dykes was an offensive standout and Alicia Bates led the defense in the 7B match.

Tyson Reingans was the offensive star in the 8A match, with Brittany Gamble earning defensive honors.

In the 8B match, Sela Rodrigues was the offensive standout. Kathrine Myers led the defense.

Soccer

LAMPASAS – The Tri County Flyers 92 tied the Tri-City Express U18 girls soccer team on Sunday afternoon in their season opener.

The Flyers scored in the first half on a penalty shot from Kristen Grant.

The Express came back early in the second half and tied it.

The Flyers' next game is Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Elgin Ladycats in Harker Heights.
