Copperas Cove

Boy MVP: Chris Miller – Set school record for interceptions (13) in a season and also lead all of Class 5A. Will attend Air Force and was selected to the all-state team and the OIL Bowl. Miller also got Cove baseball's lone All-District First-Team selection as a center fielder.

Runner-up: Raheem Odomes – Became Cove's only known 1,000-point scorer. Also collected 500 rebounds and shot 58 percent for his career.

Girl MVP: Leslie Martinez – Led the Lady Dawgs in nearly every statistical category, including points (11.4), steals (4.2), assists (2.8) and rebounds (7.9). Helped Cove get its first district title since 2000 and was selected to two all-state teams.

Runner-up: Tina Miller – Set school record for spikes while leading the volleyball team to its first playoff win in Class 5A. Also earned an all-district nod in basketball.

Ellison

Boy MVP: Daniel Cobb – The future Red Raider played both offense and defense for Ellison. He was second in District 12-5A in rushing.

Runner-up: Prezel Hardy/Ivory Washington – Hardy clocked the fastest 100-meter time in the nation (wind aided) and won the gold medal at state. Washington made the regional tennis tournament and was also an all-district soccer player.

Girl MVP: Jessica Stuckey – Became Ellison's all-time leading scorer as just a junior. She also racked up her third consecutive Disrcit 12-5A First-Team selection.

Runner-up: Alisha Jones – The junior led the Lady Eagles basketball squad to its first playoff appearance since 2001. She averaged 10.2 points, four steals and three assists.

Harker Heights

Boy MVP: Kerry Sloan – The junior finished third in District 12-5A rushing on his way to an All-District First-Team selection.

Runner-up: Tommy Seigman – The dual-sport athlete made both Central Texas all-star games in baseball and football. Will play baseball at UMHB next year.

Girl MVP: Melissa Mays – Made the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Team and won second in the triple jump at the state track and field meet.

Runner-up: Aliese Hyde – Also earned a TGCA All-State nod. She won the 800-meter district and region championships before disqualifying at state.

Killeen

Boy MVP: Rhontae Scales – The future Aggie was an Associated Press Sports Editor Class 4A All-State pick, posted 65 pancakes and 55 knockdowns his senior year. He also helped Killeen get into the playoffs for the first time since 2004, and win its first playoff game since 2001. He will play in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game in July and also went to the state track and field meet in shot put

Runner-up: Michael Cummings – The sophomore jumped on the scene and led Killeen to its first state quarterfinals since 1993. Cummings threw for 11 touchdowns and almost 1,600 yards and ran for 18 touchdowns and 1,097 yards. He also finished fifth in discus at the state track and field meet.

Girl MVP: Breanna Shaw – Averaged 19.6 points and 6.8 rebounds a game this season and was District 25-4A Offensive MVP. Led the Lady Roos to their first postseason win since 1992.

Runner-up: Kelsey Wilcox – Wilcox is a three-time All-District First-Team selection, a three-time Killeen team offensive player of the year and is the current Killeen High record-holder for most goals scored by a freshman in a season and career goals. Wilcox helped the Lady roos reach the postseason for the first time in seven years while being named to an all-region team.

Shoemaker

Boy MVP: Jameill Showers – Named to the Super Team Offense – the first area athlete this decade to receive the honor – and best dual-threat QB in Texas by Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. Committed to Texas A&M and won District 12-5A Newcomer of the Year.

Runner-up: M.J. Porter – Earned an AP All-State Honorable Mention as a wide receiver and an all-district selection in basketball.

Girl MVP: Sami Berg – Pitcher named District 12-5A MVP as she led Lady Grey Wolves to first-ever playoff appearance. Berg had a 1.23 career ERA and struck out 801 batters (a school-record 290 this season) in her time in a Shoemaker jersey. She also batted .463 with 14 home runs and 118 RBIs.

Runner-up: Chaniqua Corinealdi – Junior placed second at state track and field meet in the 200 meters.

Florence

Boy MVP: Ben Katzenmeyer – The do-it-all athlete was the state champion in the 181-pound weight class at the Class 2A State Powerlifting meet and finished sixth in the 100 meters at the state track and field meet. Katzenmeyer also qualified for the Region IV-2A tournament in tennis with boys doubles teammate Bobby Stanezak, and he was a Second team, All-District choice at running back and defensive end.

Runner-up: Blake Brimer – Brimer led the Buffaloes at quarterback and was selected to the inaugural FCA Super CenTex Victory Bowl.

Girl MVP: Celeste Meyer – Meyer surprised just about everybody with her third-place finish at the state track and field meet in the 1,600-meter run. She finished second at regionals.

Runner-up: Kasey Button and Ashee Brunson – The duo qualified for the state tennis meet and advanced to the second round.

Gatesville

Boy MVP: Jake Truss – Truss helped quarterback the Hornets to a fourth-place finish in football. He also posted the lowest two-day total of all the golfers in Gatesville's state championship. Individually, he placed fourth.

Runner-up: Aaron Massey – The Class 3A Region I champion helped Gatesville cap an improbable comeback to the championship and earn a state title.

Girl MVP: Emily Leib – Gatesville's ace compiled a 23-9 record and allowed just 35 earned runs all year for a 0.84 ERA. She struck out a jaw-dropping 267 hitters (school record) in 197 innings. District 7-3A coaches selected Leib pitcher of the year while her teammates voted her Gatesville MVP. Leib tossed three no hitters – at one point going 23 innings without surrendering a hit. Leib batted .420 with 32 RBIs and eight doubles in the No. 3 hole helping the Lady Hornets reach the state semifinals for the first time in school history.

Runner-up: The Gatesville state-championship powerlifting team – No single lifter got first, but a plethora of second and third-place finishes propelled the team to a state title.

Lampasas

Boy MVP: Heath Hopson – The District 25-4A MVP set new Lampasas school records in career-scoring (2,033), rebounds (986) and blocks (215) as well as single-season scoring with his 27.2 points-per-game average.

Runner-up: Jesse Tobar – Offensive lineman was a first-team selection in District 25-4A and also did well in powerlifting.

Girl MVP: Taylor Holloman – Sophomore southpaw tossed a no-hitter in the playoffs and led Lampasas to a District 25-4A championship.

Runner-up: Kady Crow – Freshman righty didn't allow an earned run in 10 games.

Salado

Boys MVP: Ryan O'Rear – The Salado golfer won an unthinkable three straight individual state championships. The future Bear also helped his team win two straight team titles.

Runner-up: Garrett Ward – The two-sport star earned two all-star selections in baseball. He will attend Baylor on an academic scholarship, but plans to try to walk on to the baseball team.

Girls MVP: Hadley Joiner – Joiner won her second straight District 25-2A MVP as a sophomore and led Salado to the state basketball tournament for the first time in a decade. She was also selected to the TABC All-State team. Joiner was on the Lady Eagles golf team that won third at state and helped the volleyball team reach the playoffs.

Runner-up: Jenna Sebek – The two-sport star played sidekick to Joiner in volleyball and basketball. Sebek was an all-region selection in basketball as well as a First-Team All-District selection.
