Man charged with capital murder

Killeen Daily HeraldBELTON – A Belton man was charged Wednesday with attempted capital murder of a Temple police officer during a narcotics search.
A Bell County grand jury indicted Jaquinn Keith Williams, 21, for attempted capital murder and possession of marijuana, more than 4 ounces, which occurred April 3.
Police officers were executing a search warrant at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Southwest H.K. Dodgen Loop in Temple when a man later identified as Williams opened fire on the officers with a handgun. Officers returned fire, and Williams shot an officer during the exchange, according to the arrest affidavit.
Williams was taken into custody.
The officer's injury was not life-threatening.
Approximately 2 pounds and 3.8 ounces of suspected marijuana was found on a kitchen table, where Williams was initially located by officers, according to the affidavit.
Samantha J. Paul, 22, of Temple, was also arrested at the apartment and indicted Wednesday for possession of marijuana, more than 4 ounces.
A digital scale, baggies and suspected marijuana already packaged for distribution were found in the apartment, according to the affidavit.
First Assistant District Attorney Murff Bledsoe said Williams's charge is categorized as capital because it was committed against a peace officer.
Attempted capital murder is a first-degree felony, punishable by five to 99 years in prison.
