A new principal has been chosen to lead Ellison High School, Killeen Independent School District officials announced Wednesday.

David Dominguez will take the reins at Ellison High next school year.

Currently serving his second year as principal of Rancier Middle School, Dominguez will replace Marvin Rainwater, who is retiring after a 40-year career in education.

Dominguez will begin his new role before the start of the next school year.

"I'm eager to become a part of the Ellison Eagle family," Dominguez said in an interview Wednesday.

"The key for me at this time is to get in and learn all I can from Mr. Rainwater, his staff, and the students, too. I think it's important to hear voices of all the stakeholders there, and find out what things they value, what things they think are already successful and possibly what their hopes and concerns are for the future."

Before joining KISD, Dominguez served four years as principal of Watson Junior High School in Muleshoe. He also served as an assistant principal and teacher within Abilene ISD during his 16-year career in education.

As principal, Dominguez will be responsible for about 2,400 students.

Superintendent Robert Muller said Dominguez was selected from a pool of applicants after a thorough vetting process.

Dominguez has proven himself to be an effective leader based on his time at Rancier, Muller said.

"He's very bright, very articulate. He has leadership skills that are collaborative, and I think he will work extremely well with the Ellison community – the teachers, the students, the parents," he said. "He'll give 100 percent to Ellison High School."

District officials are currently searching for a new Rancier principal to replace Dominguez, Muller said.
