Class: Senior
Sport: Football
Position: Offensive line
Claim to fame: Starting strong tackle for the Bulldawgs.
What's the best movie you've seen recently?
It's got to be "Iron Man." I love the action and seeing stuff blow up. It's pretty cool.
What's playing on your iPod right now?
Anything that pumps me up to get ready for a football game. I don't really have one song or one band, but stuff that gets me going so I'm ready to hit.
Your brother, Donald Buckram, is a running back – how did you end up playing offensive line?
I don't really know. I guess I'm bigger than he is and he is faster than I am. I am still pretty fast though, especially for a lineman. But I've been playing there for awhile now, since junior high, and I really like it. It doesn't have all the accolades of a running back, but we get to do the dirty work and hit people.
Donald plays at the University of Texas-El Paso, and had a pretty storied career at Cove. Do you feel you ever have a lot of expectations to live up to?
It is big shoes to fill, but I don't really think about it too much. I play a different position and I don't really focus on any outside pressure. I demand a lot of myself to do well.
Do you and Donald talk?
All the time, especially texting. We usually talk about football of course. He always wants to know how Cove is doing, and I ask him how he's doing. We'll even exchange advice and ideas. Since he's a running back, he tries to give me pointers on how to block and open holes. I'll try to give him some advice, but I don't know how much he listens.
What's the craziest thing that ever happened to you on the football field?
I'm not sure who we were playing, but two years ago on JV, we were on the goal line. I got distracted by this big bug on my leg. It was really bothering me. So I tried to swat it off, but I ended up falling over and getting a false start called. It was pretty funny.
What happened afterward?
Thankfully, we scored on the next play. But I got yelled at by coach. I tried to explain the situation, but he didn't have much of an understanding. Hopefully, no bugs try to land on my leg when I'm playing football again.
