An early morning prostitution sting by the Killeen Police Department led to four arrests Wednesday.

KPD's Organized Crime Section initiated a prostitution sting in the downtown area near 10th Street, a KPD news release stated.

Derrick Gaines, Anthony Williams and Nytilex Jones were arrested on a misdemeanor charge of solicitation of prostitution.

"People are out there soliciting for prostitution, and it's time to take care of them," KPD spokeswoman Carroll Smith said. "It's illegal, and we do this every so often because there's people out there that think it's OK to do it and it's not."

She added that most of the prostitution in Killeen occurs in the downtown area, and the stings help clean up the area.

Also, Fythian Phillips was arrested on a charge of interference with the duties of a public servant.

Smith said Phillips was riding his bicycle in the area when he witnessed the operation and shouted that officers were making arrests to warn the neighborhood and hinder the sting.
