Killeen Daily HeraldHARKER HEIGHTS – Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run Wednesday.
At 12:20 p.m., police responded to a call about an auto-pedestrian accident in the 300 block of Indian Oaks Drive.
Police Cpl. Randy Stefek said a 20-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl were heading home from a local business and walking on the grass, off the curb of Indian Oaks Drive, when a dark color or black newer model, two-door convertible with a Texas license plate left the road, drove onto the grass, barely missed some mailboxes and struck the 20-year-old woman from behind. She was transported by ambulance to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
The females said the convertible slowed down before speeding off into the nearby neighborhood.
The girl described the driver as a white or Hispanic male with spiked brown or dirty blonde hair wearing sunglasses and a blue-and-white-striped shirt with a collar.
Both females said the convertible had a loud exhaust, which they heard when the vehicle sped off.
Stefek said Friday afternoon that the woman remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening head and leg injuries.
Officers found no evidence of damage to the vehicle at the scene, but Stefek said it is rare for a vehicle to receive no damage in a hit-and-run accident.
"I can only presume that all the auto-pedestrian accidents that I've worked, there has been damage to the vehicle some sort of way," he said.
Anyone with information about the accident or the vehicle is urged to contact police at (254) 953-5400 or Stefek at (254) 953-5458.
