Aunt Jewell, as she was known by her loving family, was born May 17, 1919, to Lonnie and Laura (Hendricks) Jean in Maxdale. She lived most of her life in Killeen, where she was a longtime member of The First United Methodist and the Friendship Sunday School Class. In addition, she worked for the Killeen Independent School District for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Wells in 1944, son Ronnie in 1996, daughter-in-law Carol Wells, sisters Ocie McCoy of Burnet, Opal Smith of Killeen, Gladys Nooner of Austin, and brothers Lloyd Jean of Killeen, Thurmond and Clyde Jean both of California.
To call Aunt Jewell a special lady would only start to scratch the surface. Everyone knew her as a very strong person, with a very soft heart. She loved everyone and lived her life by the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Never the one to complain, she always saw the glass as being half full, not half empty. Her love for God and family was evident whether you were around her for only a minute or a lifetime. Being in her presence simply made you a better person.
Jewell is survived by a sister-in-law, Marjorie Jean of Killeen; nephews, Kenny Jean and his wife, Carol, of Killeen, Roger Nooner and his wife, Helen, of Austin and Michael Smith and his wife, Loretta, of Austin; and a niece, Charlotte Bailey and her husband, Tim, of Austin. In addition, the loving children of the nieces and nephews.
The family would like to personally thank The Clairmont, Heritage Duval Gardens and Angel Heart Hospice in Austin for their care of Aunt Jewel.
